“A wonderful adventure”: Fougères Musicales turns ten
Born of a love for Saint-Sulpice church, the festival has taken root in Brittany.
23 mai 2023Over thirteen editions, Fougères Musicales has become a major classical-music event in Brittany. The regional press follows it closely, praising both the ambition of its programming and its commitment to every audience.
As early as the tenth edition, Ouest-France recalled the origins of the adventure — Gabriel Richard’s love for the acoustics of Saint-Sulpice church. Thirteen years on, audiences come from well beyond Fougères, from the Rennes area to southern Normandy.
Each edition gathers great international names. In 2026, Elisabeth Leonskaja’s recital drew particular attention; La Chronique Républicaine praised a line-up “brimming with talent”, from the Danel Quartet to soprano Adriana Kučerová.
The press regularly highlights the festival’s openness to those far from classical music: the “Cello and dance” show for nearly 500 schoolchildren, and concerts in a care home and at Fougères hospital.
