Since 2012, the Fougères Musicales Festival has brought classical music to the heart of the Fougères area — led by a public-interest association and an entirely volunteer team.
The Festival is organised by the Association Fougères Musicales, a non-profit public-interest association founded in 2012. All its members are dedicated, experienced volunteers, many with a background in project management and budget oversight.
In 2027 the association largely renews itself: after a transition year, a new team takes over and gives the festival fresh momentum, without compromising on the artistic standards that define it. The festival is also supported by elected officials and leading figures from the music world, gathered in an honorary committee.
It all began with an acoustic. Captivated by that of Saint-Sulpice church, facing the castle of Fougères, violinist Gabriel Richard dreamed of gathering great performers there: the first edition took place in 2012. Thirteen editions later, the bet has paid off.
The festival has become one of the major classical music events in Brittany, its demanding programming and openness to all audiences faithfully praised by the regional press. For its tenth anniversary it reached a record audience of 2,300; every year it draws listeners from well beyond Fougères, from the Rennes area to southern Manche.
Access, excellence, heritage, parity, young talent, education.
